Creating Standalone Desktops
To create Standalone Desktops:
- Select 'Standalones' from the top menu
- Click on 'Create New Standalone' Desktop
- A dialogue box will appear as shown below

Each field is explained below:
-
GPU Model
Select the GPU model and type if needed. Tick 'Display GPU enabled servers' to show only servers with GPUs available. -
Datacentre / Server
Choose the datacentre region and server closest to your location. -
OS to clone from
A range of Operating Systems is available.

If a template is labelled 'Copy Required', it needs to be copied to the selected server before use. Typically, only Windows OS may attract additional fees. -
Include Custom, RC, and Old Versions
DaDesktop regularly updates OS templates. However, if you encounter issues with the latest template, you can try an older version.
-
Memory
Set the memory limit for the desktops. Note that you are constrained by the server's resources by default. Each server may have different memory limits. To request higher limits, please reach out via Support Chat. -
Label
Enter an Alias to assign a simpler label to your standalone if needed.
OS Template to Clone from
You have several options for selecting the Operating System Template. You can opt for Windows or various Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, Almalinux, and others.
Pre-built templates, typically identified by a version number like V51, are available. Alternatively, we now offer the ability to build fully up-to-date Linux templates. The 'Build New' Linux templates employ a different build system that uses Linux sources alongside a script to apply the necessary DaDesktop customisations. This ensures the template is always current, secure, and simpler to deploy and maintain.
Building OS Template
After selecting your desired template, a pop-up will appear as shown below.
Click 'Start Building'.
Your standalone will then be built. Note that the build process may take more than 30 seconds; if it seems to have stalled, please be patient and allow extra time.
Built template now available
Once the template is built, you can adjust any options as needed and then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.
Your Standalone is now being created. This usually takes just a few moments, far less time than building the template.
Your new Standalone is now ready. In the example below, it's named 'julian-6iqm', but you could have assigned a more descriptive label if you'd preferred.
Click 'Connect' to launch and connect to your Standalone machine.
