Overview of Standalone Desktops
First up, what do we mean in DaDesktop by a Standalone Desktop?
There's a ripper overview of the different Desktops here. But in simple terms, a 'Standalone' desktop is a machine that's not necessarily used during a course itself. It 'stands alone' as a separate desktop that can be used before or after the course wraps up, or just on its own without being tied to a course.
The Standalone is especially flexible in this regard.

Typical reasons for creating Standalone desktops:
- Preparing Training Course material that can be reused over and over outside of a course itself, or kept for when it's needed.
- When you need a flexible machine with maybe a different Operating System (Linux, Windows) to test out ideas in a safe environment.
Features:
- Sharing Links give full access to everyone with the link!
- If left idle, it'll shut down automatically after 24 hours.
Cost:
- Creating a desktop is free.
- Starting a desktop will set you back a bit.
- The cost depends on the number of units, based on CPU, Memory and Disk Space. There's an extra charge for Windows.
- If you join a course as a Student or Trainer, you'll get free credits that can be used for standalones.
- If you don't connect to your standalone for more than a month, it'll be removed.
Usage Tip:
Start with "clonefrom#" then the keyword to search for desktops that were cloned from the same source.
