Potential issues during use
A small number of applications may need slight modifications to work seamlessly with DaDesktop
Issues during Fresh Start cloning and available fixes
Most applications run perfectly when set up in the Fresh Start machine while using DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of applications don't behave as expected due to the cloning process, requiring a few extra steps to function normally.
- Oracle Database Server - Requires changing the hostname from the duplicate to 127.0.0.1
- Hyper-V server - Hyper-V encounters issues with duplicate MAC addresses when the External switch is enabled, after cloning from the FreshStart machine
- Google Chrome - Chrome may not launch properly on cloned machines due to a profile linked to the Fresh Start machine, if that machine wasn't shut down fully during the cloning process
- WSL - Windows System for Linux - During testing, we have found that DaDesktop machines with a WSL installation are not portable; that is, moving a DaDesktop machine with WSL to another DD server will cause it to fail to boot. The reason is unclear, but we assume Windows makes assumptions about the hardware it's installed on, and switching servers triggers a problem. Because WSL is rarely used in training (Linux is typically used directly), this issue hasn't been thoroughly investigated yet
- Issues where a trial software licence uses the MAC address to track the licence - In this scenario, the licence was bound to a MAC address, so after cloning, it seemed the licence had already been activated and exhausted.

Applications requiring licences might need to be installed after FreshStart cloning.
Other issues that may arise when using DaDesktop
-
Extremely slow VirtualBox when Hyper-V and VirtualBox are both running (this isn't limited to DaDesktop)
Problem: Extremely slow VirtualBox on Windows machines, making it nearly impossible to run a course, but the fix is remarkably simple:
Solution 1: Uninstall Hyper-V virtualisation in Windows:https://www.wintips.org/fix-virtualbox-running-very-slow-in-windows-10-11/
Solution 2: Use the Hyper-V Server workaround mentioned above; otherwise, duplicate MAC addresses cause slow machine operation, boot issues, and other odd behaviour.
- Unable to type certain characters such as Apostrophes, Quotation Marks, and Inverted Commas, into a DaDesktop machine.
